jenniferheadshot3DJennifer Heelen/Director, has a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in library media for grades k-12 and holds a master’s in Information Sciences from the University of Tennessee- Knoxville. She has worked as a youth services librarian in several public libraries in Virginia and as an elementary school librarian with Culpeper County Public Schools.

As a library teacher, Ms. Heelen often shared traditional songs and story telling and incorporated music and movement activities to enhance her library lessons. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, traveling to historic sites and visiting museums. She is currently a Middle School Math, History, and Science teacher at Epiphany Catholic School in Culpeper.

ashleyAshley Wever/Instructor  received her Bachelor’s of Music Education from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and has experience teaching music to a wide range of ages beginning with infants and toddlers and expanding to collegiate and adult age. She believes music is more than just music, it is a confidence builder, and an outlet for expression, and a language that as musicians we are so privileged to understand.

Sing, Dance, Play and Jam! During class, you can expect to enjoy singing, rhythmic rhymes and chants, creative movement, and instrument play. The class is designed to help you and your child have a fun, musical experience through a playful and informal setting. Your active modeling and participation is an essential ingredient to your child’s enjoyment and musical learning.

Imagine a class full of giggles, wiggles, and a whole lot of musical fun! A class that you and your young child can share! Come prepared to sing, chant, move, and play instruments!

Even Infants benefit from participating in Music and Movement Classes!

Class Size

Average class size 6-12 registered children (Max. 15) and their parents or caregivers. Children under 8 months old are not counted in the class size number. Older siblings are welcome to join us in class!  Both parents, grandparents, and caregivers are welcome to join the class at any time during the semester, no need to ask!

Music and Movement for School-Age Children in Grades K-5 Group are on Saturday’s @ 10:30-11:30am

Children in Kindergarten through 5th grade develop quickly and explore new activities, master new skills, and are busy gaining independence. As a parent, you may be making choices about extracurricular activities that complement their new school experiences and support their growth—in music and in life. The Music and Movement for School-Age  Children class helps your child take the next step in music development with new activities, skills, and challenges that are developmentally appropriate for K-5th grade children. School-Age classes focus on Basic Music Literacy, laying the foundation for formal music instruction in school or in private instrument lessons, as well as a lifetime of joyful music making. Music and Movement for School-Age students class is a safe, familiar, fun environment where your child can experiment with new cooperative musical activities including; traditional circle games from a variety of cultures such as rock passing games jump roping and hand-clapping songs, parachute games and call and response and action songs. Parent attendance in each school-age class is welcome but not required. You may attend any and all classes if you wish. However, due to the structure of the school-age class, we cannot accommodate younger siblings (except for babies younger than eight months).
